Where the fuck do I go to discuss smaller agency or corporation backed uta-chuubas like Fuji Aoi, Nomu, the Kamitsubaki girls or the Riot Music Girls etc.?
Why is this board just the big companies plus indies, where's the inbetween?

I should have made the dependent clause in that sentence a bit more obvious but I meant to say /smaller agency/ OR /corporation/ backed. With the implication that corporations would be much larger. It's easy to appreciate VSingers' singing ability and whatever but what do you gents think of their variety? I feel like alot of the time they sing the same, how would I even describe it, oricon-core songs? If not those then Utaite staples you've been exposed to for the last decade.
I appreciate Aoi's variety (probably due to how long she's been in the scene), as well as KAF and vsingers like her who have a lot of original content, plus that one Niji that sings Choral songs. Oh and I also like that one Kamitsubaki girl who sings more hymnic anisons, the one with silver blue hair. But beyond that it seems like they're confined to a top oricon and anison-adjacent style, you'd expect them to cover mainstream J-Pop acts like Oomori Seiko, Yakushimaru Etsuko, Miki Furukawa, Passepied, Kaho Nakamura, Ayano Kaneko, Ayumi Hamasaki etc. but it's rare in comparison.
Is it just licensing that's the hurdle?

I don't know much about singing but regarding KAF, I feel like her voice makes her songs kinda same-y? Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty good voice and I really enjoy it but it might be a tad bit overpowering. Hearing her sing, I can't help but think of her voice being tied to a reserved, emotional niche. For instance, https://youtu.be/V0Olmwnnpj8 is what a "KAF"-type of song is, in my opinion. I guess my point is that her voice is kind of stiff/set in it's own way or that I just have this preconception of her songs based on her voice that it detracts from her when she branches out?
https://youtu.be/zX2SI3ntR2A
https://youtu.be/g6cTC445zYY
These two songs break that illusion for me though since she sounds a lot more energetic than what I imagined her to be. I like these in a gap moe kind of way.

>I also like that one Kamitsubaki girl who sings more hymnic anisons, the one with silver blue hair.
Are you talking about RIM? I found out about Kamitsubaki a few weeks ago through Kaf but Rim is my favorite out of the bunch so far. Seeing them during their live, their voices feel sort of similar, leading to natural duets. Though, Rim's voice sounds closer to "average" to me which I think would make her voice more malleable and applicable to different styles. She also done english songs which is nice (plus a cover I keep coming back to).

I think the issue that you're describing in Kaf's case specifically comes from the way she's being produced. Her producers are very obviously trying to sell her as stoic, mysterious, and sorrowful, and to that end most of the songs they've had written for her and the coaching she's presumably receiving in regards to public appearances is towards that end. Personally I think having that sort of utaite "canon" makes the scene rather fascinating in a way; it at times almost feels like you could call it a genre. At present you can feel that very strong lineage out from utaite traditions from NND and seeing how things evolve from here in a few generations will be interesting.

Without knowing what happens behind the scenes I think it's impossible to say how much of that is based around what the singer likes, what the backers like, what they think the fans like, what they're capable of licensing, etc. but I honestly feel the practical licensing concerns are a smaller thing compared to the priorities of the singers and companies themselves.

well i guess one huge thing that singing vocaloid songs has going for it is the music is free

where as if you want to cover some jpop song that nobody has done before its fine from a copyright perspective more often than not, youtube has a blanket agreement with the japanese record industry for that, but what you aren't allowed to do is use the original music from the CD, so unless you are actually skilled as a musician you are going to have to commission someone to cover the song for you to a high enough quality

You also have the fact that the type of people who're going to want to be a vsinger instead of merely using their face are unlikely to have tastes that run in parallel with the culture at large, and are far more likely to be massive otaku themselves. People sing what they listen to and what they like, and you also have a bit of a feedback loop where you'll have one person sing a song and then it infects the community at large because they hear it and like it.

It kind of bothers my curiosity that the Japanese charts don't include foreign sales. You go to Oricon and it only shows 1,200, but it is probably a safe bet it sold multiple times that globally but that is never going to show up anywhere that I know of.

Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but HimeHina's Mr. Virtualizer featured a ton of VTubers as background dancers.

Feel like this should have blown up more since I imagine it must not have been easy to organize this.

Yeah, not exactly what I'm looking for. I want the chuubas to sing.
Also, if I'm not wrong, only the models were provided for Mr.Virtualizer. So it was essentially just HimeHina and no one else was involved..

Surprised ViANKiE doesn't get mentioned more often, she was one of the standout indies during AZKi's Fes, both for being a good singer and for having a very distinctive voice. She really shined on her lounge styled original.

You might have some luck looking for cyphers, which is the name for a big rap collab, but organizing a bunch of people for a single song is pretty rare since it's a lot of work and you'd get better return doing a bunch of smaller collabs. There's things like VirtuaReal where you have a collab album by a bunch of different agencies and indies, but that's not what you're looking for I assume.

Normally if you have a lot, it's only on a choral chorus like in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yk_t1uuY-_w or >>2416444 and you have only one or two main singers for the verses.

Yeah, I know. When it happens it's pretty great, and that's why I'm searching for songs like that.

I don't know if the indies who performed live on the 3rd day got archived somewhere. It was more of a festival then a Live for the most part, though since it was just playing MV after MV for 72 hours, but there was a 2 hour concert by AZKi where she covered a bunch of the other people's songs and then the virtual Entas Live on the following day. AZKi's concert still seems to be privated for some reason, but the frog said they're working on it and there is an archive in the archives if you dig.

Greatly appreciated my dude. Also I wonder what AZKi plans to do from here on out. Was pretty interesting to learn from her recent live that it was always planned for her to have graduated around next year, but she's now decided against it.

Probably the same thing she's been doing this year. Stream once or twice a week, do concerts when she can, and crank out music like the lovable studio autist that she is. I do think we're going to see her interacting with the rest of Hololive more, so maybe we'll get a bunch more duets and covers. I was surprised to hear her say that the AZKi project was originally intended to have an expiration date, but I'm very glad she's found a reason to stick around.

>Also I wonder what AZKi plans to do from here on out
She will undoubtedly keep her focus on music but will also start to take part in other activities that will let her build and directly engage a larger audience. The reason that's important is because even before the Internet, music was never just about the music itself; your appearance, personality, and image are at least as important. If you have an audience who likes your stage persona, then it's possible they will care about your music even if it's not the sort of thing they would normally enjoy.

So how big is Gems, really? I know AZKi was pretty thrilled to be working with them and they've got some pretty stellar production as you might guess from people being under the SQE brand, but they've got much lower subs numbers then I would expect for being backed by such a multimedia giant. Are they just big on NND, or did SQE not do a great job of advertising them?

Looking at oricon their first major album released near the end of last year was in the chart for one week and sold 1,691 cds in that week. So probably don't have some hidden huge fanbase somewhere else. Maybe she just likes their work and respects them as artists/idols?

It really feels like the whole VSinger / virtual music artist sphere is underrated or just not known as well compared to dime a dozen variety streamer VTuber.

>> No.2562027

>>2561627
I mean, it's a niche within a niche, but Don't Stop the Music shows that there's a whole lot of them out there. Conversely, though, there are even more variety streamers. As to being underrated, it's hard to judge, since you do have the girls of Kamitsubaki getting 10s of millions of views because they're both well marketed and very talented, and even the Hologirls and bigger Nijis pulling millions as well. While they may not be competing with the big names in the music industry, that's still some pretty resounding success for any musician, especially for a media that's largely limited to the Japanese market.

It depends on your perspective and frame of reference. If you're coming in at this phenomenon through Hololive or Kizuna Ai, those are major outliers, and even then Hololive only really started taking off in 2019. Before that, even getting past 10k-20k subs were big numbers for any Vtuber. Also, but another aspect for "Vtuber idols" is historically the more traditional idol streaming service is DeNA's SHOWROOM, not Youtube so much.

>> No.2562861

>>2562542
Yea, I'm aware those are some pretty outlier numbers, but I also compare them to some of the smaller companies or indies in this thread and they're also comparable if not far surpassed in subs despite being around longer and having a big company behind them. I guess Gems does have a couple of really high view videos on their main channel despite the low sub numbers, but it's still strange to me.
