What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Vtubers are under more pressure to perform and there's a lot of help out there in order to get better. Whereas normal streamers just turn on their cams and stream for 10 years without changing anything because there's not many resources for them out there to grow compared to the vtuber community.

>> No.23291141

>>23290989
the difference is that streamers are treated like normal human entertainers, whereas vtubers are treated like commodity products. It's the reason why there's always constantly some new gen of chuubas that everyone is sperging out over. It's actually really similar to marvel movies- people consume one product, enjoy it, then move on to the next one. Thus, any aspiring chuuba has to jump through 500 fucking hoops in order to carve out his/her little niche.

I listened to two recent streams and your voice isn’t bad. It was calming, not excitable. For the chill design stream, it was rather nice to listen to while I did my own work.

What do you want your voice to sound like? When you say you want to get rid of your accent, do you mean to sound generically American? I think accents are a charm point, and it’d be a shame to get rid of it.

Streamers shouldn't put viewers on the spot. They didn't come to chat, they came to put on some low quality low effort mindless entertainment. This is true for 1 view streams and 100k view streams. Viewers that chat either want some low effort interaction or they want lots of attention. As an entertainer you have to allow them to show you which kind of interactive viewer they are.

As a viewer I was once watching someone make something and it was all very low effort. I was giving them some advice as I had experience in the kind of modding they were doing. Then one day they excitedly told me look today is an exciting day look, you could not sub to them. I was just thinking to myself like honestly I don't care, I'm just here because I'm curious how the mod turns out.

If a streamer doesn't have good theory of mind they will absolutely fuck themselves every day.

>> No.23293207

I am amazed at how low the quality of a lot of streamers is. I'm not an amazing streamer, but I'm vaguely funny, have BGM, am not shit at games, and have an overlay. I also actively talk with chat.

I actually think raid retention is probably one of the most important stats, rather than CCV. High CCV can be hard, if people don't know about you. Retaining raids though shows your only problem is you're unknown, rather than being bad.

If you don't retain raid numbers past ~20 minutes, have a look at your own content. What do you do to welcome people in?

Trying to go back through some of the old feedback so then I can get that stuff fully stuck in my head, and try to do more with my voice/stream/content reps. Hopefully I’ll have a model soon so then I can express myself a little better than being a flat (figuratively and literally) PNG.

There is nothing new under the sun.

It's fine to take inspiration from others, and there are plenty of repeating themes and styles in the community, including specific animals. Perhaps come up with a mood-board to figure out your spin on the rat-take? Are you a cleanly type, or are you no better than a trash-goblin? A city pizza-rat, or a studious lab-rat?

Depends, money makes things better. There are some that dump a lot of money into it but they're toxic and rely heavily on their model and flirting with other vtubers.

Having a lot of money can cover up the warts by letting you have a stream that looks like a decent production. Otherwise people are more likely to tune out. The irony is that I don't think most of these make their money back, they must have other motives.

I've never really bought the whole raid retention thing. It's so rare that career streamers with thousands of viewers rarely if ever retain half of a comparatively large raid. It's very uncommon to retain a raid even if your content is good. It'd have to be downright amazing, like actually revolutionary shit like Code Miko was at the time or something, or when Iron Mouse got that Melody raid and blew up. Very few people are that skilled and very few people probably will be that skilled, it's not always something you can just "look at your own content" for.

I'd also consider making some other changes, but they'll basically just sound racist.
there's not enough contrast in your skin color, eye color, and hair colour. They blend together, which added to the general darker tones on the shirt/scarf (seriously, it looks like the light has broken), makes this into a shadowy mess.
Going bald would, I think, be a good idea to reinforce being a vulture. Make your iris slightly smaller, or highlight the yellow more. Vultures tend to yellow eyes, no sclera; but currently I can't see, for certain, the line between your iris/pupil.

You didn't even bother trying to understand what others were saying, did you?
Nobody says that raid retention is retaining as close to 100% of a raid. If anyone WAS demanding that they'd be asking for something impossible.
But what raid retention is, is if you retain more than 10% of a raid, however, its probably because you did a good job of greeting the raiders and entertaining them.

After watching a few streams (Mostly Pop N' Start, but also a few other indies to keep tight groups without announcing it) makes me wonder if your in-group is more important than the people you meet and dump.
Everyone is trying to network and collab with so many other people in order to grow their reach, but forming a actual group of people you know and get used to seems more important. Better raid retention, gets invited into actual groups, and increased synergy in collab streams.

the "2D image moving realistically" visual is not exclusive to live2D, live 2D is based off of basic motion graphics principles and technology except it live tracks human movement.

heres an example of motion graphics, you can do this with anime characters too and theres plenty of VNs where this is done for the sex scenes where its just a cock thrusting into a girl

tensions are high, i feel like this bucket has become a little cramped recently...

for people who were arguing about pricing stuff, i did get the admiral for 100€, and I'd say this is a pretty good rather unique 3D model. I did basically get an insanely good deal because i paid an starving artist who just started out for a learning experience (it was how much he'd take) and still in hindsight he believes he didn't feel ripped off. It is possible to strike a deal, and i do believe i horribly overpaid for my recent one (like 900 for a simple 2d character design), but it's money i was willing to spend anyways so i don't feel too bad about it.

Sometimes you just hit gold and get a cheap and good artist, that works reasonably fast, it's not your responsibility to set a reasonable price for their work. In my case I'm giving that artist a second job amd I'm glad to pay him more now that he's better and I'm in a financially better spot.

I think I mentioned it vaguely way before in /asp/ but he was a clout fiend. We had a close knit circle of friends in the beginning and we all grew at about the same pace, until a few began growing a lot faster, me included, and he was bitching at us and at every given moment would send us his posts through DM on twitter or link it on discord and be like "I posted guys go like and RT it", and shit like that. We all for the most part either cut him off or eased off contact, but he would always brag about dumb shit too. He always, without fail, brags that he "ghosted Mori Calliope" and how "he and ironmouse are friends" because they reached out to thank him for creating an asset.

He's also the type to follow someone and after they follow him back, he unfollows, and he also has confronted people who have unfollowed him before. He's said he doesn't follow back people under 5k before, but that was probably more a joke.

He's also become a known sexpest, I'm sure you guys don't follow up on him much especially a few months ago too, but a bunch of callouts popped up from a bunch of people regarding how he behaved towards them. He also had tried to chat me up, but I shut it down pretty fast when he tried it because I had a boyfriend. A lot of Singaporean indies absolutely despise him.

For the most part, we've all outgrown him platform wise and it's humorous to look back and see that he's the same pathetic, clout obsessed person he always was.

I'm looking for spacey, futuristic fonts that could work for a HUD-like design for starting/ending/brb/etc. screens and for holographic-style displays as well. Pixel and segment display fonts seem to be the way to go, but I'm also feeling possibly something sleek/angular/slightly condensed but still readable at small sizes. I'd probably also want a second typeface for display purposes or headings.
