If you check the comic industry earnings, you'll learn that they are boosted by manga, scholastic books and crowd funding services as well as comic to hide their failure. Even with all those combined, they are still outperform by one manga franchise in sales, Demon Slayer. It's not just the higher cost of ink for color comics, it's a serious of bad decisions going all the way to the 90's that has lead to the decline of comics in the west.

I'm not saying it's the sole reason. it's just the most obvious instance of smart decision making on the part of the manga industry compared to the comic industry. if your goal is to make money why would you waste time and money on a stylistic difference that doesn't actually improve the storyline or writing of the comic. the fact that they still get such a simple thing wrong is a testament to the stupidity of marvel and dc's design philosophy.

Color vs black-on-white is a negligible business problem compared to the more glaring issues that we have mentioned.
