We can only really speculate on this one, she was pretty vague when she talked about it. I assume she applied for or was scouted by a big corpo, got far in the hiring process, but then decided not to join for whatever reason. Shadow is very attached to her model and pretty clingy with everyone so I'd assume the safest bet is they either were offering a model she didn't like or the restrictions were too tight for her. Shadow is pretty known for being a bit of a loose cannon.
She's been a fan of Hololive for years and has a close connection to it so I'd be willing to bet on that, especially since they're known for nepotism hires. I could honestly see her being interested in joining Hololive just to be with a certain green woman again, she's said a few times how she misses her.
