Not because you are not trying hard enough, but because you do not understand the fundamentals behind drawing.
Drawing is about representing 3d space and form on paper. Rather than think in 3d space, you are thinking mostly in rigid symbols.
Please read some of the books of Andrew Loomis or Bridgeman. They will skyrocket your artistic skill.
The execution of the fundamentals can differ which creates different styles, but the fundamentals themselves are universal. Japanese artists study loomis too.
Keep your head up and keep fighting.

How would you resolve this? It feels a little awkward with how the cheek plates curve back and then you have the neck part almost separate.

Still quite a long time ("above average" is still very very small growth). If you look at your vtubing investment as something you must make money back on, then you might be more prone to getting upset when not meeting your goal. If you do meet your goal, then congratulations; however that's honestly not your priority (or at least shouldn't be). Just be prepared to part ways with your upfront costs instead, and look to have the most fun you can while trying to get better at streaming.

These are both solid color choices.
The question is what kind of character you want to portray.

I will call my version "cabbage", the blond version "earth" and the black haired "black"

Cabbage is a tomboy take on this character.

Nothing much more to say it is a cool design that lends itself to a lot of things. Monochrome clothes have a nice feeling to them where they let the character show through.

These colors are beautiful anons. You've given me a lot to consider for the type of character I'd like to portray and how her colors should lend themselves to that goal.
I've imagined her as a someone who had been more of a stereotypical gyaru moving towards more stylish outfits, while retaining some of her past preferences.
I like the character designs from danganronpa and initially looked to those for inspiration, but noticed nearly all of them are a sailor uniform and some variation of it and wanted to get away from that.

The greyscale one wasn't meant to be a final palette, just trying to place where the emphasis could be. As you said, it depends on the character. Do you want the bra showing to be a fashion statement, or more of an accidental slip? Classic schoolgirl light shirt/dark tie combo, or a more mature look? Is she outright flashy, or even "secretly" flashy?

If you need the money to pay back then don't. It depends on several factors though. Can you support yourself and your investment with your current income and living situation? Can you make time for streaming such that it wont impact your regular income?

Realistically if you're not a NEET on subsidy and living with parents then you need to estimate how much your time is worth per hour and add that to the costs. Treating it as a flat cost otherwise would be delusional. For a while you might find that it would be more economically sound to work in a sweatshop which is why you should only invest if you wont miss the money.

Suppose you value your time at $10 an hour with a flat investment of $600 and you stream 60 hours a month with 50 sub growth each month and a 50/50 split. Ignoring donations for now, you'd pay it back after about 10 months with 500 monthly subs. If you stay at 200 subs then you'll never actually pay it back unless it's just a hobby to you. Many of the medium sized vtubers are never paying back their investment except as a hobby that they supplement with their real income from their real job. They usually have other motives like popularity and only a few of them actually use it to supplement their real work as a sort-of portfolio.

So for me I covered pop culture like ever other sheep. Cartoons animes movies etc. It would often start with seeing a peice of fan art or reading a fan fiction as nerdy as it is. Or going to the movies with normals and hearing what they think. And bingo that's a video. I would then take two paths. I would usually script out about 3k words per video with no ending pre done, and usually do 2 to 3 takes, then send it off to one of three editors I had. We'd then work on the thumbnail at the same time, be it a customer art peice or a more traditional one. If the video needed animated elements We'd have go to people for that. The other path is me doing 10 takes no script and mashing them together to make a product and uploading them with little to no editing lol. These would normally be for "breaking news" "midnight releases" etc.

Hmm, that's a good question. So I actually had a more explosive growth. I started off doing cod commentaries as one did back then. Even pewdiepie did. Then I had a big cod video that did 43k then another at 49k the next day, then a commentary 135k. I vaugley remember making a 1k video but I think I had hit 3k by the time it came out. As soon as I saw the views I knew I had to just keep doing these style of commentaries. I think starting a channel is like starting a fire. You have to try hard to get the spark and then you need to nurture the embers.

Thanks anon, that's honestly what I was kind of expecting, I myself have thought of shifting to those types of videos myself now (cod commentary stuff) , either ranting about something with generic gameplay in the background, or regularly uploading very short game videos consistently. I noticed a lot of channels were like that at the start (like you said with pewdiepie). They would just post whatever, but consistently, and they would grow slowly at first, but would begin to snowball so long as they kept uploading stuff. Which kinda makes me annoyed that I accidentally got myself a strike meaning I can't upload until Sunday... As cliché as it may sound, consistency might really be key

What I've been doing to some success is scripted 3-5 minute League of Legends videos: I write a script about a topic that I want to talk about, and put gameplay footage on the background, then I make some edits to make the stuff I'm talking about easier to visualize. commentaries do a lot worse now unless you are incredibly credible with your high skill. tutorials and information vids generally do better but still you lose a big chunk of audience if you go variety or stream. i think we are reaching a point in time where skill prevails over everything, or if you have one of those insane personalities that just draw people in. video essays you can kinda fake it til you make it but you need to be beastly at editing and scripting. COD commentary has been phased out completely by stream clips where you just talk about your topic then trim the clip to become a 10 minute video like so

Personally, I hate ones where nothing happens. If streamer is active in chat, that's one thing, but often it seems like they start the stream, then go do a shit, then come back.

I start my stream, do an audio check, then run ads. After ads are over, I'll talk about plans for the stream, what we've done this week, and what future streams we've got coming up... probably until the five minute mark. Then I do a quick run through a round of geoguessr, which takes up to fifteen/twenty minutes, then I start the stream proper

Assuming the VRM isn't included you'll just want an FBX to VRM conversion guide. Blendshapes are used to control things like facial expressions on models. Most models only need Eye open/Close and syllables but the rest help you to create custom faces you can hotkey in. Vroids have them as well. Any model you'll work with will have Blendshapes
