When I was a kid, I was extremely intelligent and very much into sports so I would talk about them often (maybe I should mention that I have suspected Asperger). However, later I became obsessed with videogames and that's what I would always talk about; my family didn't like that and I was also a nervous wreck who would easily cry at anything so I always got incredibly nervous when my family would do things like sit around me and say stuff like "the stuff you're interested in isn't useful, I would like to see that kid who enjoyed more important things"

With that in mind, I guess I became more closeted about my interests; if they didn't like videogames, what would they think about stuff like anime? So over my teenage years, I would try hiding what I was doing around the computer and if I wanted to watch some anime or "weird" YouTube video I would wait until the midnight to make sure no one was around

Nowadays, my mother has made it clear that she knows what I do online, and I get pressure from her due to college and how I should be fixated in it instead of staring at anime girls, but even at times I can't do homework without feeling nervous about who is around. I suppose I wish a bit that I could be more open to my family about what I like, but currently I just find them an annoyance, so that will have to wait until I graduate college or something

My resilience isn't necessarily bad. This was basically how I lived my life when I was with my family. After I moved out it was like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. My IRL friends never knew about my anime/vtuber addiction and I got tired of them dragging me to do things I don't care about so I dropped them all. Now in my mid-20s I have a crippling inability to even talk about anime or video games with anyone, even as a successful professional earning six figures.
