I still remember when I first searched hololive in YouTube, the first video I remember watching was a compilation of some holomems reacting to Sans dead. At that time they were only the pirate girl, the angel girl, the bunny girl etc. Kind of funny in retrospective

I went straight into it with Kizuna Ai. But I will say that I gave up on vtubers after Kaguya Luna and wrote off hololive and other big names as soulless for some time. Now I'm unironically back in.

I unironically thought Vtubers were like fucking AI streamers back when i first learned about Kizuna AI in 2016-2017.
It wasn't until I was introduced to Hololive clips in 2020 that I realised they're actually real human beings just with an avatar.
In retrospect I don't even blame myself, why the fuck were people acting like somebody streaming with a virtual avatar was a new concept at all? Back in fucking 2017? Shit like that has existed since it was possible to link up a voice to something digitally, so decades at the least. So I figured, if people are making such a fuss about it, it must be an AI that's streaming, right? That's be sufficiently new and exciting enough to generate buzz.
Vtubing really isn't a novel or even unique concept.

Kind of. I discovered Kizuna Ai around late 2019, but I didn't find vtubing based on skits interesting; "why wouldn't I just keep watching anime" I thought. Then when HoloEN debuted I liked the idea of anime girls with actual personalities playing videogames appealing, and after some weeks I had my entire YouTube feed filled with vtuber clips (I also enjoy the idol aspect)

Blame Conor AKA Cdawg VA. YouTube constantly recommended clips from personal channel and clips from his livestreams featuring Ironmouse. After watching one, YouTube recommended even more clips with Connor and other Vtubers. What really broke me was seeing Pekora’s fight with the Withers and the Iron Golem army. I still don’t watch livestreams, just clips and compilations.

still kinda new and man, its weird coming from twitch streamers to chubas
they stream so little compared to regular twitch streamers
i have automated scripts running on my computer always when its on that automatically start up all streams im interested in in VLC via Streamlink and it can be days in-between chuba streams firing off
meanwhile normal streamers stream like its a 8 hour job

not really saying that either option is any better than the other, just kinda jarring
