What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

It works on my end too, I may get high with my friends while gaming but at least that way we monitor eachother's dosage and ensure a supportive positive set and setting.

Also one of my close friends and probably the only guy who streams me on his flatscreen TV warned me about smoking from aluminum foil pipes. It's a good world if you look around, too bad so many have their head up their ass though.

Oh trust me, anon. These guys are high already regardless. You could say that it's harm reduction and high-sitting, most of these guys are alone and have serious PTSD. For example, I have to tell them do not ever sell me a gun or drugs under any circumstances (I am probably just high if I do otherwise). We've seen some shit.

It's proven more effective to address the underlying reasons that push us to use, when you're really in it you know to just not say anything by default. I remind them "Keep staying strong" and "You don't need to be high to have a good time" etc, and when they or my family remind me it makes me hurt more than I can escape from. Most are lonely and survival-mode to the point of being unable to let themselves cry or love. And we all care about each other more than ourselves, which is a problem in its own.

Is there a way to comfortably multibox Discord without having to resort to having a session on your phone or something? That is, have a separate streamer account and personal account (so that your normalfag internet friends don't belittle you because you went TOO far and tried to become a chuuba)?

So as far as corpos go (that is, specifically Holo or Niji), who had the absolute lowest floor in terms of sub count? The lowest I know of (mind you, I am a holobrony and make no effort to pretend otherwise, feel free to educate me on Niji numbers) was Ame who was around 10k when the window during which she auditioned opened (and she still tacked on another couple thousand followers during the waning days of her streaming in her past life)
I know everyone encouragingly is like "lol anyone can make it just go for it man!", but no one can point out 2views who lucked out without being straight nepotism hires, or being non-streamers with tens of thousands of subs for their produced content. And like >>21059325 pointed out, people who have numbers that have precedent for being corpo-worthy (I'm talking 1k+, minimum) move the fuck on. Not downplaying any of you guys who have clawed your way up to having a couple hundred followers, don't misunderstand me, just saying that while such of you are big fish compared to 2views, vtweeters, and viewerfags, it doesn't even come close to what appears to be realistic numbers for even standing a ghost of a chance in an application, no matter how fun and quirky you are. There are plenty of other fun and quirky people with several times your numbers.

I've come to the realization that the best way to make any progress is to actually craft and play a character. My current "haha self-aware that he's just another dude with an avatar XD" cynical schtick is boring and overplayed.
I know this is like, step zero for actually chuubing, but it hadn't really sunk in at all. I actually need to do a proper character and all. Can't afford to become a jaded asshole/"be myself" until/unless I Make It in any capacity, at which point breaking character becomes fair game.

Pretty sure finana had under 10 streams total and like 6k twitter followers when she was accepted into nijisanji. From Hololive, yeah Amelia is probably the smallest content creator, she was averaging 100-150ccv on twitch.

I can't divulge names obviously, but a streamer with ~3000 twitch followers and 2k twitter followers got to the interview phase for holostarEN. That's pretty reasonable, I feel like anybody who isnt halfassing it can get those numbers in a year or two.

honestly i think this is the bitter truth. even if you are a perfect fit and talented as a mother fucker, you will definitely get number filtered if you havent been doing this shit for 2-3 years with substantial numbers. i wish they were more explicit in this so they dont waste people's time and give them false hope. hell maybe this is some sort of marketing strategy to keep people more engaged so they have this idea planted in their mind that they can join some day

I mean, it makes a harsh kind of sense. A couple years of grinding on top of already having some degree of natural talent and/or charisma will mold you into a very good candidate. Of course, then it becomes a question of whether you wanna throw away years' worth of thousands of hard-earned fans to sign with a corpo and fall under the shackles of management. Sure, you get the salary and exposure and all, but it just seems like a bitter pill. Either be a 0view and not stand a chance at all, or grind for a while and be "worth" their time, but you're successful in your own right.

Professor Bloom

Not an aspie technically, but Elliott Ambers

It's retarded to think that Finana got in as just a vtweeter who barely did any streams. We have aspies streaming for the better half of a year to get close to the 16k views that Finana had. That doesn't even include the fact that the bar is climbing with each wave that gets put out.

Cope harder. The fact there are so many 0 viewers and more are starting every day is proof that we're already oversaturated. That's literally what oversaturated means.
Back in the beginning if you were to start vtubing then you were guaranteed at least enough viewers to only work part-time and still be able to support yourself if you vtubed on the side. That was back when not everyone had the technology. Now it's oversaturated. Stop coping.

That's not what it means. I work in an over-saturated career, that's well known for being over-saturated. People can still make grow and make money doing it solo from the ground up, it's not impossible. But it's incredibly unlikely due to so many others existing, including already big corpos. If you do work for existing corpos, the pay isn't great unless you're extremely lucky (think Vox who probably has no job anymore V.S. Bonnivier who only gets 5k views per video and probably doesn't make much money off it)

Oversaturated does not mean there's no chance, it means there's very little realistic chance. Continue coping.

the thing about league of legends that anyone who plays it will know is that... there really isn't anything that happens until like 1:30 when you actually encounter your laner. you talked about how you were still in base, said let's go, but other than that there was no commentary on anything during your entire walk up to lane
you could have mentioned then how fighting fucking LB in top lane would feel awful early on if you wanted to focus on game commentary; i know you address someone in your chat as they mention something about fortnite but i'm sure you know you won't always have a chat to bounce off of
>1:08:14-1:08-34
another spot where you kinda don't say much even though you're in a situation where you could say things but you kinda just silently get your ass beat by wukong until he kills you
its late so i'm not gonna jump around more but there were other spots in between where i didn't make comments because the commentary and chat interaction was fine
also don't over think your design its cute i don't think redesigning is what you need

You know a lot of people just flat out prefer 2D, right? There's a reason so many people gravitate towards it and why a majority of the biggest names focus mainly on 2D models. Both have their place, but there's no reality in which 3D takes over 100%.

Outside of tracker-based tracking (which is extremely expensive, niche, and often difficult to troubleshoot and work with), there's no real reliable method to gain natural movement. That alone is a large prohibitory.

Cameras and devices like the Leap Motion can pick up movement well but the range of motion is extremely limited and the speed in which you can move is significantly lowered as well, I've tested both methods and camera based tracking is just not responsive enough.

Groomerfag here. Why are you guys getting personalized/comissioned avatars from the get go? Around here it is very common to buy a non-unique model with good rigging from the jp market and just start streaming, only getting unique stuff later on. Hell, most people think you have an unique model if you do your homework and grab a good one since very few people speak japanese in the first place. I have been following a talented chuuba for two months now, she's entering 3 view territory and going to debut a "proper" unique avatar in two weeks.

Sometimes I see people spending far too much on theirs before they even have a viewerbase, or making their own and being laughed ITT. You can mog over half of indies with $40(or less) model with rigging included, anons. Do ir.

it ended up being more generic, but i think that's sort of the point for the type of character i'm going for. he has a lot of personal importance for me and that isn't shown through his design. i will have a couple interesting things on his clothes that catch attention but the face should definitely be just shonenmckirito with maybe not 100% slider to anime. If you want to, i compiled some information here:

https://pastebin.com/mwtgn52P

This was my answer to him wanting references. I added the pic i sent him and i also included the artists sketches for posting it here. I believe my biggest problem is not really "knowing" what i want. I know the character very well (because it's my own), but i never made a visual design for him. So i'm relying on the artist randomly stumbling upon something i like. I even believe the references i gave were too far apart and i'd like to see a lot of those incorporated in one which is frankly impossible. I've tried to go more "i want to convey this mood" rather than "he needs blue eyes and a scar across the face" if that makes sense. I don't need accessories i just need the vibe to fit the personality.

I did settle to get a full 8 picture portraits for my RPG maker project and general posting (like older jrpgs used to have, grandia big inspiration here) so i hope that alleviates some of my troubles because what i think i'm looking for is multiple expressions. This is a rather personal thing so i'm trying very hard to not bother the artist with non-sense, but i do want to be satisfied with it and he's been amazing so far. Not sure what i'm looking for here, i think i'll manage but maybe some of this is fun for you to read anon. Also i'm REALLY bad at picking references.

What kind of weapon he uses... You don't want to over design, but you don't want to under design either, especially in the case of a character that has to show up a lot like a vtuber model.

I think it's the eyebrows. It's the only thing that really differs from the references. That and maybe a slightly larger mouth. The eyebrows he gave you are a bit higher than all your references and they shouldn't arc as much by default, they should look more like the angry expression (without overdoing it, you don't want angry face all the time). Not sure if I convery the point across properly, if you don't understand me, just look at your reference, they are ALL like this.
If these aren't your problems, I say settle with it, because it's otherwise as good as it will get, your artist did a good job at fusing the references you gave him.

The streaming is just the primary content you create and should only be done max 4 times a week. You should spend the rest of the time you have that week making other content for other platforms: making stream clips, youtube videos, memes, upgrade graphics on your stream, record covers, make music videos, etc.

Even spending that time learning a new skill that will help you improve your content is a better use of your time than streaming 7 days a week. Learn photoshop or premiere pro, practice a new language, take singing lessons, erc.

All I'm saying is that you can make a bigger difference doing many other things that would be a lot more valued for most.

What is something you like to do? Stream yourself doing that and expressing your expertise in the area and you might get a follower or a few.

Next, watch the stream and clip out any moments you think are useful:
- Did you say something funny?
- Did you teach something that others could learn from?
- Did you have some unique experience you’ve never had before while doing it?

Clip those and post the videos to youtube and twitter. Put vtuber tags on the content and people will follow you.

Rinse and repeat forever and you will grow. It will not be fast but you won’t be 0view anymore :)

What is the best way to stream console games using OBS, in terms of actual setups? I don’t have the room for a second monitor on my table (27” honker + mid tower) and i don’t want to have to drag that out to the living room with my PC. My two laptops (mid-2012 and M1 MBPs) can’t use OBS Link for two separate reasons: 2012 apparently can’t do USB 3 anymore or I can’t find the OG C to A cable, and OBS Link doesn’t support M1.
I also have an HO dv6 from early 2012 as well but lord… that thing is slow as balls.

why are you asking me? go ask the other anon. even then it's his fucking life why are you trying to thought police a fucking hobby?
>you can make a bigger difference
maybe he doesn't want to make a "difference" whatever the fuck that means. maybe he just wants to shitpost about politics as an anime guy in a suit with a half mask.

Because I could afford it and thought it would be fun. I saved for a few months and spent less than $1000 on something that I thought looked cool and was a good embodiment of my personality; something that I would feel comfortable streaming behind, basically.
Ultimately, I did it because I wanted to.

I mean, sperging out about politics online genuinely isn't very good for your brain. Politics are genuinely a waste of time and engaing in some fruitless vanity project where you pontificate about what red and blue are doing wrong and gee isn't yellow the greatest is some of the dumbest shit you could possibly use your brain to do. You do you, I guess!

If you are seeing potential in the edit and you are willing to pay, I would love to show you my previous work in private. I am good at making recognizable, unique faces and character design.
The payment goes Free sketch>Half>finished work>second half.
I'm sorry for shilling myself, but I don't like being hungry.
Thank you for your consideration.
