Rushia is the prime example, yes. There is no one way to be a successful vtuber in my opinion and there is genuine merit in opting to significantly cutback collabs and focus on an already existing fanbase to drive up fan engagement. I think someone like Selen could actually pull off having an insular community of dedicated dragoons. Vox, even more so. He doesn’t need any of the other nijis to thrive.

The flipside of the Rushia example is that it created a house of cards that collapsed instantly and destroyed her career when she "messed up." Yes, she made money, but she also chose a very risky path and stumbling off it proved to be fatal. i like impromptu collabs, but the issue is in order to enjoy them you have to like every single person who might suddenly appear, and with a group as big as nijien, that's not realistic anymore. i enjoy random interactions when it comes to my jp oshi because he has a small and tight-knit group of friends that i also know and like. if there was a chance every single one of his coworkers, including the ones i'm ambivalent toward, might show up at any moment in one of his streams and hijack it? much less fun.
