Calli and other underground rappers along with those utaite rappers have a lot more focus on melody then mainstream rap (compare stuff like from nqrse to mainstream jp hip hop). Makes it a lot more enjoyable then that for me.

Honestly, she’s too white for rap. In my estimation, it’s hard for whites to come into the rap game because of the racial barrier. Eminem ain’t bad but he was an absolute outlier, MGK and rappers who are white do not have the same appeal as Eminem.

In fact, I’d go as far to say that rapping is not Mori’s game, she should stick with singing regularly cause she’s not bad at that. I hope she becomes a little more classical, make songs like Adele, or Agnes Obel, or Lorde. They have low voices, and if Mori practiced I’m sure she’d be able to sing as well as they can.

It's amusing but, not only was I never into rap, but Japanese rap is even more niche.

As someone with a bedroom studio who himself has been producing music for like 14 years, I've never taken it as more than a hobby I did at first as a kid/student then as an expensive-ass hobby that's not and probably never will be my real job. Even if I sometimes have 'what-if' type aspirations of making it big, I just don't have the exposure / luck etc. Mori does however, luck of exposure beyond almost anyone's dreams - so I'd say she's just lucky as hell that that she'd have to pretty much actively work to destroy herself/her music to have anything less than success from it.

If I were her I'd hang onto the Mori association for all it's worth because you'll be lucky to retain some fraction of the attention once moving onto some other name (or fallback). This is the time for her to do all her very-best work possible, try the very hardest, innovate the hardest, put on the ultra-tryhard pants to try to lift her whole genre up. This IS the time.

I'm not too into it.... with some caveats. I'm not too into rap in the first place, but my first ever impression of Calli was the RIP song, which I found extremely cringe (still do), so after that terrible first impression I avoided her for quite a while before i found out that outside of some cringy songs she's actually pretty good. Having listened to more of her songs since then, I like Cursed Night a lot, and Off with their Heads is sorta nice too, but I have to be in the mood for it. But oddly enough, I listen to her roommate's music a lot, and that really vibes with me generally speaking, even though Calli's generally doesn't. Even still, I'm excited for her new EP to come out nonetheless.

It's love or ignore. Hear one of her songs and like it, you'll probably like them all just fine. Because the biggest draw of her music is her. Her voice,, earning her story, dorky humor, honesty, and everything else.
Because a lot more people know Mori now they will also know her music. So her future seems pretty set and musically, she keeps trying different things so it doesn't get stale.
The only drawback is how hard she works herself and that's something only she can learn to ease up on, we'll see if she has learned it after some stuff wraps up.

If Im honest, like painfully honest with myself. Her normal songs are pretty crap. Cursed Night is good but thats because she sticks in her lane. What I mean by this is that she doesnt have the voice nor demeanor for the generic bravado most rappers have. She isnt "hardcore" shes a softy and she should embrace that.
