I'm looking at getting Art/model Commissioned but I want to learn to Rig it myself. The look i'm going for is tan adult librarian, maybe something vaguely magic related.

Vtuber Focus: Lore, and just ramble chatting. I like to randomly deep dive into various lore pits, be it LoL, Warhammer, Runescape, or anything else really.

Main Reason I haven't done it yet, I'm concerned my IRL job would pretty much ensure I never get to stream. Seeing as I have to vanish from the internet for up to 5 months at a time every so often.

I can't speak for anyone other than myself but yea if you aren't like willing to spend money for this hobby I have serious doubts you'll have the drive to last if you don't get the immediate success which you most likely won't. cause very talented singers and streamers can go months or years with little uptick in viewer retention. both charisma and voice can be trained
for charisma, improv classes (whenever it's safe to do so in your area)

for voice, voice coaches are top tier, but if all you want to do is vtube, you can get by with simple enunciation practice (pencil between teeth) and just lots of practice. if you're trying for a voice, get (1) a sample of the voice you want to emulate (VA from a game, actor from a movie, host from a radio show, etc.), and (2) a recording app on your phone. practice saying a line your target says over and over again, experiment, find out how your vocal muscles work, and just keep doing it. 10 minute exercises like 5-6 times throughout the day.

A friend said I may want to look into it b/c i'm good with voices and characters from DND. The big issue for me is that Vtubers are supposed to make people happy and laugh.

While i'm sure i could stay in character at all times I'm too depressed and full of hate. I know that it would bleed through and end up making people sad.

Being a Vtuber is about building an emotional connection with people. last thing i'd want is to make that toxic.

I'm honestly thinking about it. I'll have to commission a model but I think that I could easily cover my weaknesses by playing a character. I have a bit of a stutter but if I play a nervous character people might find it endearing. I've been told by several people that I have a good voice and I have no idea what they hear in it but I'll take the compliment.
Though I do have a problem with needing interaction to be compelling. So building up from a small audience might be extremly difficult because I have a hard time playing off myself

Eh, i learn from watching what works. The biggest obstacle is art, and editing. Slick editing makes a huge difference for clips or youtube videos in general, and starting out, you definitely don't want to be paying someone to do that shit. So you at least need some rudimentary editing knowledge. As far as art, backgrounds, channel art etc. I'm still out on that one, not sure what you'd do there.

Made a cute model, made a background and intro an all that, then remembered I'm a 22 year old man.
Tried hitting it off with the Twitter crowd but after a few months of posting and engaging, still had zero followers. Got annoyed at those people who get affiliated before they even stream, let alone reveal their model, so I quit Twitter. Planning on uploading through YouTube since Twitch isn't so hot right now.

Listen, it's more about charisma than anything else.
Also, the market is inflated already and it's exponentially harder for anyone to get a following from zero. You have to become a virus. And fot the virus to survive it has to be ahead of the game, not limping behind. You're not going to magically get followers if you don't generate content, which doesn't really have to be unique, it has to have your soul attached to it.

I've thought about it, but due to the pandemic I'm at home and... my mum is strangely needy and has no respect for privacy. I can be on a call with friends and she just walks in and starts talking to me or expects me to jump up and do something immediately. I really could not deal with that bullshit on-stream, it'd be a fucking disaster. I'm pretty fortunate though, my dad bought me a place and we're currently renovating it, but I don't want to leave my mum alone when she can't see anyone.

I've got a friend in a similar situation who's waiting to move into their own house.

For sure. I'm a long long LONG time lurker so even writing "hi" in a streamers chat shivers me bones. Twitter showed me that you really gotta project yourself and weed your way into groups and shit. I'm still not a fan of that type of system but it's not 2009 anymore, parasitic behavior is honestly the only way to go, I completely agree.

Actually, for now, I'm taking a wildly different approach to YouTube clips; blending reviews with Vtubing. Think if Scott The Woz had an avatar instead. it's actually pretty chill sending a commission sheet to an artist, maybe having 3 chat comments on twitter back and forth, and a month later, your comission is done. if you use Skeb, it's even simpler since you send a single message and never actually hear from the artist until they accept your work and give you the final product.

not as scary as a neet might think, just the novelty is the uncomfortable part. i'd recommend it for anyone who is curious about actually getting a character done for vtubing.

I’ve been vtubing since november and i gotta say it’s one of the most rewarding pursuits i’ve ever had. i’m poor as hell so i did all my own art and rigging tho, i think the barrier for entrance i’d probably a lot steeper if youre not an artist.

I’m still a little baby viewership wise but im doing my best to grow! i stream, like uhhhh, 8 times a week for 2 hour bursts.
