In tournaments selen ends at the bottom of the botton every time. Aqua is an unknown quantity in organized teams but a better player in solo ranked. Therefore with the evidence we see so far, Aqua is the better player.

Selen plays in tournaments whose lobbies are absolutely stacked with monsters that Aqua hasn't ever really had to compete against. I recall watching one game that Aqua played against that had a full Pred squad of pros in it. That pro team shredded the Diamond lobby, including Aqua and her team, in moments. Aqua is good in general ladder play. She's not going to be able to bring that level of skill to the tournament scene.

Aqua is in her peak form and trying, Botan is way past her prime and chilling. There is literally no competition, akutan will wipe the floor botan 8 times out of 10, and i'll give 2 chances to Botan only cause difference in life experiences is too vast for akutan to easily cross, our hag could pull a lotta cheesy shit if she had something actually riding on the line for a prize.
Now throw them in some less familiar genre, hell even fps, but not ironsight based, and give them around month to sweat, then we will have something to be hyped about.
Also, Botan could probably eat aqua's lunch in R6 for quite some time, cause the game is very much knowledge check of an FPS and TTK is very low.

How are there tournaments and pros for this game when the outcome kf matches essentially goes down to luck?

It's a high skill/high luck game, it's possible to be somewhat consistent and compete in this.
Luck factor brings the hype for normies - big plays, big throws, big upsets, rng swinging balance scale all around, people love to watch shit like this.
