Call me a schizo but I think I finally understand what causes the "incline," and it isn't merely luck and algorithm magic and coombait clips (though they do help). It's actually trying to be an entertainer and giving the audience what they like.

So without doubt the current most popular girls in the small corpo sphere are Nene, Miori, and Emma. I can't say much for Emma cause I don't watch her, but she's aware that her model is gorgeous and she's leveraging it well. As for Nene and Miori, they are fully committed to the grind. They pump out tons of content, they know the current meme trends, they know who the audience wants them to be, they interact with the community, they know what kind of character they need to play, and they're actually treating this like a performing art and not just being themselves. They also know that EN GFE vtubers are in short supply and they're taking advantage of it. They're constantly testing the algorithm, while most everyone else is just, there. Everyone is coomerbaiting now and yet Nene and Miori are still doing it better than everyone else. These two fully deserve the growth they're seeing.

Now look at Shiki, who's just on the cusp of being on the same level. She had massive success at the very start but she's reclined heavily. She has a lot of positive qualities for this gig but unfortunately she just isn't as committed to it as they are, because she really doesn't make as much content as they do, and she rarely does anything novel or interesting.

Most of the others just aren't entertainers. You have some hard workers, yes, but they're misplacing their effort. Yura is the perfect example of this; technically she's doing everything "right." She streams a lot, she releases covers, she does a ton of networking, she has a ton of different talents, but she isn't pushing any envelopes. She also used to do GFE and bait coomers, but stopped because she hated the image it gave her.

As for everyone else, most of them are just kind of there. You have people like Isla and Aoi who sing well and release tons of covers, but aren't getting any traction from it because they otherwise don't have very much broad appeal. You have Reina and Ashelia who are going all in on clickbait clips and raking in views and subs, but not actually getting much stream views from it because they are otherwise milquetoast. Then you have the vast majority of the others, who seem to really not care at all whether they grow or not.

Being an entertainer means nothing if people don't know you exist and if they don't click. Obviously when more people know you exist and decide if your content is good or not that will be another factor.

Nene and Miori were growing at a slow pace before their shorts, both are entertaining and I watch both. Then they began to explode with their shorts showing that the biggest hurdle to growth is visibility as number one aspect hindering ability to grow and clickable content as number two. People aren't as willing to click on a 2 hour 48 minute video of an unedited stream as their introduction to a vtuber unless it is one of their favorite games of all time. Two most likely ways for people to click your content as a vtuber right now is if it's a bite sized short thus low time commitment, or if they stumble onto you while you're streaming.

Let's look at Amiya. She easily made it to my top favorite vtubers, with Pomu and Meruru. Amiya is very entertaining and streams many times a week and is consistent. She can talk about various subjects while playing games, can do acoustic guitar karaoke and it sounds good, along with having fun making pixel art and retro sounding video game tracks. Her sub growth is constantly going down week by week. As time goes on her subscriber growth becomes more stunted. On the other hand you can see people that find her REALLY enjoy her. They watch many of her videos hence why her views continually climb.

Even with that chart you can see once she got to December her initial growth explosion stopped, it went down, and just became stable. I'm just glad that some people on /vt/ mention that they got recommended her and that they really enjoyed what they saw.

I hope she can somehow push through, but with my current knowledge it'll be a struggle at best.

I think a lot of the small corpos and large indies get stuck on the third point. Where they think or they know that if they start optimizing they'll hate themselves or what they have to do and so avoid it for the sake of their own mental health.
