It does make sense for people watching "the box" but I'll make a bold assumption here and assume all that most people watch with interest is a single chuuba, at most 2 when they're part of an "unit" (like Okakoro or Noefure).

Of course people in this site or vtuber adjacent sites can say every single Holo by name, branch, gen and year of debut but that's not the regular audience.
I assume most people here remember when they didn't even knew there was this thing called "Hololive" (or "Nijisanji" if that's the case) and only knew about the existence of the one streamer they watched.

The "meta" gets numbers because people wants to watch *their* favorite playing such and such game, regardless of how many other people have played it. It doesn't matter that 20 other chuubas played that game with the menhera vtuber, it will still bring numbers for the subsequent ones because *their* audience wants to watch it.

And Koyori is not even a good example, she's one with the most variety on her choice of streams, accusing her of "just doing the same" is silly

This is probably one of the main reasons desu.
Ark definitely has a significant viewer base thanks to Coco and old Nijisanji spreading it, but that's it. They're all only oldfags, the buff new audience they got during these past couple of years are all newfags.
And while they might check out the initial streams out of interest, Ark is a a MUCH more complicated game than Minecraft.
You click on any Holoserver minecraft stream and you already know how it's going to go.
Even newfags without any minecraft knowledge can understand it after 5 minutes because of the simplicity of minecraft's mechanics, while for Ark the people joining mid-stream will usually not understand and thing and will probably click off after 30s or so.
Which is also why there's notable dropoffs after the initial boom, the folks that don't understand the game or care for it are leaving, and since not everyone plays Ark, there's no guarantee of unexpected meetings between members that happen literally every single stream in minecraft.

Another problem is that there isn't a segment like Asacoco right now that helps fuel the ARK addiction while also keeping the casuals somewhat up-to-date with whats going on. As an individual viewer its incredibly hard to keep up unless you watch a lot of streams.

We're also missing big events this time. During the peak of ARK addiction you had this huge lava golem raid collab. That collab is still one of the best large scale collabs up to this day. Too bad this happened before the real big boom of EOPs arriving so people don't really remember it. Not to mention, the channel that hosted the clips from this collab was Hololive Moments and you know what happened to them.

Council is interesting because it has 2 almost opposing types of streamers in the same gen. Bae who had a horrible start and is clawing her way up via hard word. Then there is Kronii who had one of the strongest starts a Holo could ever have, but clearly does not want to stream or buff herself in general.

I think the only comparison on the JP is gen 2 with Subaru/Ayame/Aqua I think. I was not watching Hololive until November 2019 so the only thing I experienced happen in real time was Subaru's incline. Ayame was already being Ayame, and I know Aqua put on the grind to claim her spot at the top of Holo.
