What is /auds/?
A thread where we discuss our vtuber aspirations! Where it's agency-based or independent, let's help each other grow and make it as entertainers. Indies are welcome to join, but shill responsibility. Share what knowledge, insights, what works/doesn't work for you.

FAQ:
Do I need an expensive rigged Live2D model to be a vtuber?
You do not! A simple .png avatar can be enough to get started.

Where can I learn how to Live2D rig avatars?
Brian Tsui of Iron Vertex has many tutorials available on his youtube channel

Do you think i'll get canceled/branded as a pedo if my character has a short shirt? The height is about the length of the picture I posted and there is a cape that goes over it with a window opening in the middle. The artist did a fantastic job at making my character's art, except the shirt was shorter than the reference picture I gave them. My character is not a loli but they look pretty youthful. I mean like, yeah, ofc I know it, but at the same time I do not want to watch over my old cringy streams where I did a shitty pitched-up voice instead of my actual deep but still feminine voice (which I had thought was masculine for some stupid reason but literally every person who came to my voice reveal stream and yes I had one of those told me it was not masculine at all so I had no reason to do the pitched up voice in the first place)
I'd rather do some new content and also just a self-intro video

then do it, anon. there's no rule written in stone about when you can/can't do a self-intro. iirc Snuffy who is a wvt used to do some high pitched voice, did a real voice reveal, and just makes content with her normal voice now. so there already are examples of people doing it.

Look at the Vtubers on twitch and youtube there are so many right now that you really need to differentiate yourself from them. Being the 5000th streamer just playing Apex/Mario or whatever simply seems like it isn't going to work right now.

It's a niche that can set you apart yes, especially if you are good at it and could potentially teach others along the way. I know some channels that exploded in popularity from teaching things like that in different games (pokemon, magic) so a yugioh based one could work. There's also nothing wrong with play another game on different days if you need a break from it.

When you talk in.. let's say Gura's channel or anyone with 1000+ viewers your message is almost never going to get read and you are pretty much just part of the crowd in a stadium cheering them on.
In comparison for example in the /wvt/ thread, most people linked there have less than 100 viewers which almost guarantees every message you type is going to get read meaning you can actually ask things to the streamer and feel like you make a connection with them. Also for stuff on the chest, yeah, you’re probably correct; it needs a bit more than it has right now.
>>1681887
Yeah I was thinking of doing that too; the thing is, the model also has some really good rigging. I could definitely reach out to ask if the person who made my model could like change up the shirt a little, since it’s not as difficult to rig up alternate shirts for Live2D models as it is to do alternate outfits I think?

>> No.1682263

>>1682141
>could definitely reach out to ask if the person who made my model could like change up the shirt a little
not as simple as that, because the rigger would have to re-rig the new changed shirt to make it match the rest of your model movement.

if i were in your position and really felt the need to add additional aspects to your model, chest and up, i would ask the artist to create separate files of doodads (brooches, flowers, buttons, clasps, etc.), and then give those over to the rigger, so they can pin it onto your model.

it would be a LOT less work compared to redoing an entire shirt/torso area + the rigging related to that shirt/torso area. pinning on some flairs is much less work, and (depending on the artist/rigger) much cheaper as well.

This is something being done by an illustration student, not a professional artist. I'm mostly just interested in what they come back with since they're trying to match an exact style and I'm pretty patient anyway. Plus finding an artist for that exact style is really difficult from what I've seen. But it's been a week since I've heard from them due to them being busy with school/work. I don't want to pressure them since it was unpaid anyway, just curious to know what commission artists usually do.

I'll probably have to end up looking for an artist to hire regardless, depending on what comes back, but goddamn its annoying trying to find a artist that isn't "anime waifu" or "bishie guy" only.

My roadmap currently includes both streams and regular traditional youtube uploads, with a slight focus on the latter.
I've been avoiding doing too much advertising on Twitter aside from regular community interactions because I'm worried that if a hurdle slows me down, I'll lose motivation after promising content. For that reason I've decided to not reveal myself as a vtuber until after at least my first couple videos are finished.

My question is, when I make my twitter reveal, should I do so BEFORE uploading the videos to drum up hype since I haven't actually advertised yet? Or should I upload my first video alongside the announcement so there is content for people to check out that day?

Tried to look on twitter but that shit is obnoxious for actual search functionality. Looked into artstation and pixiv for examples, but don't really know how to go from those to actually commissioning an artist. I assume you'd have to look up the artist of the works then see if they do commission.

This other artist contacted me before I had actually finalized my concept so I haven't really done any looking for artists since.

Literally every male vtuber that does well is big from other activities before they start or they sell as a woman. Every corporation that's ever commented on the subject admits that men aren't viable. Every huge male debut just loses all viewership after a week no matter what they did to start.

I think someday there'll be a successful male vtuber but it basically requires some huge market shift like when hololive EN launched and tons of people spilled over to watching indies. Right now the only reason anyone pretends male vtubers can work is because they want to believe them or their oshi will make it when it's not true.

I saw some people earlier in the thread mention babiniku's (a male using a female avatar) and i just want to throw some channels and info i have out there since i watch a few.

https://www.twitch.tv/dot_lvl
One of my favorites, he streams with a loli avatar and mostly plays retro games or old PC games. He sits at over 2000 followers on twitch and usually averages 70+ viewers per stream he's an example of a really good babiniku.

https://www.twitch.tv/foxyjoel
Uses a female doll model and the lore is that he died and is now trapped in it. He does a variety of things but some of the main focuses are Art and watching videos with chat in a Zatusdan manner. He has grown massively in the last 6 months with 23k followers on twitch and usually averaging over 200 viewers a stream.

https://www.twitch.tv/mic_sounders
A newer one i found on recommendations but still seems to be doing pretty well and an example of why i think no matter what your voice sounds like, Loli sized avatars just seem to go really well as Babinikus. He isn't as popular as the other 2 but still had 1.3k followers and average about 10-15 viewers a stream despite being a bit of a backlog andy.

There are of course a lot more (especially on the japanese side when it comes to using voice changers ) like Tomari Mari and i even like the horror themed one Mimika Morph, Sadly i haven't watched them enough to give information on.

I would personally say that Babinikus can 100% work if you are upfront about being a guy rather than trying to hide it. Loli avatars in particular have a good gap moe angle where the male voice even a deep one isn't really offputting. No harm in trying it out if you want to go this route.

No, the "negativity" in question here is "male vtubers will never hit it big unless you already had a body of work". There's no useful information in that idea, and no alternative stated. If you have any better ideas, please feel free to actually outline them. But the actual counterpoint to it is actually "just fucking go make content" since that will be vastly more useful to someone who wants to be a vtuber than "your male and therefor fucked".

That sounds pretty neat actually. One of the biggest draws of using a model is that you can completely hide your "real life" from everyone by hiding behind it so i understand that part and relate to it well.

When i was talking booba chars i meant for example this twat https://www.twitch.tv/sean_vr who clearly has oversized tits and makes it some of the main focus. Providing you aren't doing that then it should be fine. I don't suppose you have a sneaky picture of a model you'd share?
