I was watching streamers LARPing as a fictional characters years before Live2D was easily accessible to everyone. And having a PNG avatar of the character was already enough to tell that the streamers was indeed LARPing and thus a different experience than a normal streamers.
The Live2D is only the next stage of this, but can also be use for anonymity in an otherwise perfectly normal stream. Some streamers (game dev, artists, etc.) used live2D with free publicly available characters, just to not have a webcam.
It's not hard to understand how and why it works.
