This. The truth is they probably KNOW it's a shitty app to anyone who's serious enough to learn a language. They just don't know how to make a serious study stream where they can keep it entertaining while the audience can learn along and even help. Any real studying and there's fear of looking dumb as well. Or maybe they just think the entire thing is boring and duolingo is as deep as they want to go.

Pronunciation and audio quality especially are far superior on LingoDeer. The exercises are more comprehensive, as are the explanations for grammar and why things are they way they are. It's hard to explain without doing a 1:1 comparison but as someone that has used both extensively the difference is noticeable.

Do any of you really think she's serious in learning Japanese for this one random stream? She doesn't put effort or care about anything she streams, it's just so that she has a new thing this week. If she was serious about learning she would be doing it offline and not using the app, but we all know she's too lazy to get anything done.

Not him but I'm learning German for the same reason I am Japanese: an underlying interest in the language, culture, and history. Would also like to visit and while English would likely be satisfactory, it's always better to have some foundational knowledge of the native language, plus it's pretty shitty of tourists or immigrants to not speak the local language.

Keeping my day-to-day streak alive ever since Ame's Duolingo stream back in September. Granted, the site has streak forgiveness items in case anyone actually forgets a day.

Do I feel like I've learned anything? Not really, but at least, my learning process continues compared to previous efforts. Book learning methods don't work because there's no accountability and quitting more likely to happen.

Not in terms of the material. Actually getting this far, I feel like I forget the material and only trod along day-to-day. But at least, the process continues. In the past, I'd make my attempt to learn, only to quit for months on end.

With that said, I'll take what I can get. To actually make this worthwhile, something needs to supplement this.
