My guess is that it's because it's part of the Marvel brand, and because of that, it's a licensed game, and licensed games for other media properties usually don't go over too well, although there are exceptions.
Incidentally, Marvel has two other recent examples of both cases. I heard the Avengers game wasn't great, but I heard the recent Spider Man game was pretty good.
Maybe people were just wary because of the former, though idk if any of them share any developers at all.
