pretty sure by then several scandals will have erupted after the general public knows about abusive contracts and exploitative working conditions for everyone from VTubers to artists to backstage staff, but no company will go under because of this
several large media companies (Warner Brothers, Netflix, Disney) will launch their own corporate VTubers and likely fail miserably because they don't understand the medium

tech-wise, I really dunno. I assume it will become cheaper and easier to become an amateur VTuber but by that time agencies and big VTubers will have upped the expectations of what professional VTubing looks like

I dont think much will change desu, looking at the roots of vtubing being niconicodouga with many of the most popular streamers back then still existing as vtubers currently a decade ago just pretty much shows off how much longevity streaming has. As long as they have passion and dont burn out, they can keep doing this for years to come just like other youtube ecelebs.

The only ones I see quitting are the ones that got sick of streaming and the ones making so much money they never plan to return again. With vtubers being an avatar that never gets old and never gets boring so there's no way that age will get them like other streamers.

In Japan they'll probably still be doing just fine, maybe not stellar but likely going to some capacity still. Otaku will keep them afloat and they're not at all fickle normalfags who will drop it for something else in a year or two. Once they become embedded in something, they commit, hence you have people who have been drawing Touhou doujinshi for 20 years, 50+ year old Gundam fans there etc. There will be a core element that'll meander around to new oshis as today's famous faces gradually fade away. I mean idols from the 80s and 90s aren't performing still; it's expected that there will be turnover and they won't treat it as the end of the world.

Abroad, who knows, it could go either way really, I just cannot say. Given how cringey and casual and reddit-ified so much of the English fanbase is I wouldn't mind if they all died out.

The big holos and nijis of today have all graduated and are remembered as the stars that started the golden age of vtubing. Hololive and Nijisanji still survive but now hundreds of vtubing companies around the world exist, plus hundreds of thousands of indies. Vtubers have become completely mainstream also thanks to VR live concerts and VR real time interactions with fans, there's a vtuber for everything and many content creators have switched to vtubing from all corners of the internet, there are vtubers who do science podcasts, vtubers who do DIY stuff, there's even an old grandpa who streams himself carving wood toys with a gorilla avatar not knowing what flurries are

Everyone is a vtuber and every videogame uses your vtuber avatar for the playable character.
