Any of my fellow oldfags unironically miss this era of vtubing?
Holos, Nijis, etc. are fun to watch, but vtubing was a lot more comfier back when it wasn't stream-based.

>>12261716
You really think so? I used to enjoy Ai-chan and Nobuhime's content but I find streams much more of a relaxing way to spend my time than watching a ten minute video every two days or so. The saturation of the market also means there's always someone to watch now instead of being limited to the big names with all of the support behind them.

Streaming turned it into something special instead of a gimmick, Kizuna&co videos can just be produced in a studio without an "actor" behind it, it's not a huge difference from anime both are (mostly) scripted.

Personally found the content to get a bit formulaic. Not to say that streaming isn't.

Newfag here, I got into vtubers with HoloEN's debut but my first experience was Kizuna Ai almost 2 years prior that. I just said to myself: “Boring, I could be watching anime instead of this scripted caricature”

honestly nu-vtubers like hololive, nijisanji, most new indies etc. don't deserve to be called vtubers, they're just streamers with anime avatars, they're nothing like the original idea of a virtual character

Fair point. Personally I like the edited video format better since it made moments feel more episodic and usually good streamers know when to edit the good parts of their content.

That's fair. Streaming does bring natural entertainment up 1000%, but at the same time it's a double edged sword since at the same time you're spending hours waiting for something entertaining to happen.
>>12263250
This is another good point. What I loved about old gen vtubers is they were playing a role and it felt more natural than a anime avatar being slapped onto a regular streamer.

I enjoyed it to a point, especially Luna and Shiro (pre updated model) but after a while it got quite tedious and annoying. Kizuna Ai got replacements, Luna just disappeared, Shiro seems like she also lost a bit of the appeal with me since she became more of a bog-standard idol.
That being said, as soon as like last year or so I was excited to watch Pinky Pop Hepburn. When they're translated, the sketch format is fantastic, especially with good personalities.

At the end of the day though, I think the streamer format is more sustainable long term since more people can participate and it's a more widely accessible phenomenon and there's more personalities to check out.

>Unironically, why wasn't she even given a graduation or anything.
Many such cases

While I do like some of the old content, streams have always been and will always be the primary driving force at what keeps people coming back to VTubers or content creators in general. There needs to be balance you can't ahve 100% 10min etc. videos it gets dull and you don't really feel as connected. Literally every 4 king and AI chan herself at some point in their careers have done live streams.
Obviously you should do lives semi frequently but they don't have to be 100% of your content and nice balance is really good for when you need a break/vacation etc.
Plus YT algo loves premieres I don't know why some streamers that are lazy or unhealthy don't just do the quick little 1 min of moving their avatar around and pay someone to edit it and slap it up on YT, low effort with potential high gains.

Fuck yes. Videos were concise and meaningful. Nowadays streams are too much of a slog to watch, if you don't watch them then you're not in the know about your chuba, clips are uniornically holding the entire market up because edited short form content is still the meta, the market is highly oversaturated, they all play the same games to try and get recognized by the algorithm, the unique games they play are shit, and all their content is so same that after a year of watching occasionally I'm completely fucking burnt out entertainment wise.

This shit's already in the process of crashing hard. People just haven't realized we've already walked off the cliff. God bless our coming return to the norm of high budget, high effort, pre-acripted content that's not only entertaining but also values your time. The future is bright, even if the present is looking pretty grim.

You had no idea what the thread was like. Ai's popular in the thread was declining ever since christmas miracle. They were shitting on Sirofags in the past, but after Luna's populary surge, the table was turned on them. After nijisanji entered the market with their JKgumi, there were only handful of them left in thread. Every time an Ai video was posted, dozen of fags would start shitting on it. Baiting ai-fags into fighting them. And Ai-tards would fall for it almost every time. Anons were constantly comparing Ai's sub number with Luna's sub number, hoping Luna would dethrone her one day. Later, they would wave Mito's live view numbers at them whenever they post. The thread was dominated by mostly fans of nijisanji, other smaller groups and indies. FYI I started watching vtuber since late 2017. I saw how the thread went to shit as more and more people started showing up.
