I'm in a position where I've been granted a sizeable sum of disposable income with little to spend it on that actually matters, that isn't just food or videogames I'll never play anyway. Frequent superchater here. Basically I wanted to become "part" of the stream, and superchating is a way to do that. You get your dopamine fix not just because your girl pays attention to you, but also the viewers pay attention to you, and sometimes even clippers pay attention to you. Then you can timestamp "your moments" and rewatch the archives to see relive the experience later on. It's a moment where you "stand out"
There are more responsible ways to use money and I changed the way I spend money on my oshi. Eventually I realized there's something sinister about spending money for a little attention of a girl.
I still superchat frequently just not as much as before and I'm way more conscious about it.

It all depends on perspective - there are people with variety of incomes and views on money.
For some of them throwing spare few thousands of dollars to their favorite chuuba is no big deal, a nice way to say "thank you for entertaining my ass". It's just a way that most people try to get attention and make their oshi feel good or at least the thought of it. At a basic level it's the same rush you get when you tip a waitress/waiter a little more then normal and you feel like you made their night.
