I don't know how common gifting subs is among non vtuber streamers. But i have been literally just having a lot of them as background, and got gifted like 4 subs only during a period of a week.
This has formed a rrat inside my head, that some of them literally use socket accounts to create subtrains to create hype around their community and themselves. Granted on average they have smaller viewer base, so the chances of landing on some sperg gift are higher too, and that is why my rrat is formed, but not yet out of the cage. It's just a funny thought i head, i never saw something like that earlier since as far as i know, on youtube you either can't gift membership, or can't like let it randomly descent onto someone watching a stream.

Just looked, from 5 channels i got gifted, 3 have around hundred viewers on average, one has like around 70 i guess. And only one has somewhat close to 3 hundred.
I don't know if that makes them small, relatively to company chuubas, i guess it does make them small. I don't know bigger picture when it comes to western scene though.

Gift subs are a very common thing though. And you might have been just lucky to get a few.
If you are chatting actively, sometimes regulars gift subs to newcomers as a way to make them stick around.

This is 100% a conspiracy, but if I didn't know better I'd at least consider it.

Support that smaller but entertaining streamers get from community stuff like vtubing is bigger than you think. I'm not big by any means (and male), but for the last 6 months I've averaged about 500 from Twitch+Paypal support from my stream per month. more on my birthday for obvious reasons. People are surprisingly generous on Twitch even if you're not a large streamer because sometimes they just like you and your content. I think it's one of the benefits it has over Youtube for smaller streamers.

Most streamers have no reason to gift random subs to their community from some alt when they'd stand to gain more from gifting them to the community themselves since it makes you look more generous to your own viewers.

I know the Twitch community has a bad reputation because of the types of people who frequent the larger streamers, but people are really just that generous.

Some of the pastabin vtubers are still very amateur and just don’t have the skill to do it well and do it consistently. It seems like they’re mostly focused on being better at streaming which would help them have more moments that would be worth clipping. Most of the ones I watch have a few short meme videos or clips, so it does seem like it’s a matter of trying to balance that with streaming.
If anyone wants to shill more efficiently for their favorites, it would help if some anons here made a clipper channel.
