Mostly the latter I think. She has said she didn't really want to take any lessons before because it would make something fun into a chore. It's hard to really explain "strength" in ARK but it depends on the server settings, you can change how quickly players level up or how many stat points they get, etc, but a spear and a few points in melee damage can kill a few other dinos fairly easily
