Unironically clippers and the reddit community contribute a lot to Hololive's popularity in the west. A lot of it is just initial momentum and it feeds on itself. Clippers gravitate toward high view counts and high view counts draw more clippers and on. There are also unironic idol fans in the west too they just tend to be less vocal about it because they know it's less tolerated. I like quite a few of the Hololive girls but most of them they don't exactly offer a unique product if you understand enough Japanese to shop around and find a streamer who vibes with you better. Niche things that might pull you one way or the other are lost on western fans whose only basis of understanding is through the lens clippers create for them. HoloEN is its own thing though. Theyvbenefited a lot from the already huge Hololive western fandom from its outset compounded by the fact that no other big corpo had really made ground in the west.

Clippers and youtube algorithm are the reasons for growth. Not just Hololive, those are the reasons for Uruha standing at the top of VSPO too. Yes personality, character design, streaming times, game choice, etc contribute to popularity but luck is also a factor.

The smallest game library is a problem, but that is because Cover wants to make money when holos stream most games. Both sides might be preventing certain games from getting permission. Cover blocks because they don't want to play the game for free (except minecraft) and give the game free exposure, especially when they require payment for playing other games. Game devs and publishers block because they don't want to pay Cover that much for the exposure, or they don't want to associate with them for whatever reason.
