If you've watched at all you should know it wasn't management's idea. Also, the main reason people are playing Minecraft more is because that is how the game propagates. It is exponentially more fun with other players passively joining/leaving, random things in the distance changing overnight, extemporaneous interactions, and EN has finally reached enough players to have these things happen.

EN is being made to care about their server as much as JP does - the hard thing is that their server is newer and they have less manpower (and skill) to build things. EN barely have essential farms set up to help them with any future building projects - they're in the stoneage compared to where JP is at.

That said, it's tough when management adds "Minecraft" as a pre-requisite to join Hololive. Even poor IRyS who has fumbled around for weeks with merely a dirt house was pressured to quickly follow a guide to build a melon farm.

And suddenly when you've got deadlines to churn out buildings, Minecraft becomes a chore. Ame probably is the least affected because she actually likes researching builds and sounds like she finds it therapeutic to just build stuff - remember the time she built that long railway; super boring but she didn't seem to mind.

I'm not trying to defend EN, but I am pointing out there is a mismatch in how JP and EN view Minecraft - one treats it as a platform to express creativity in building their own little amusement park, and they relish in it; the other treats it as a children's block-building game. The expectations and sentiments towards the game are different - but management wants EN to take things as seriously as the JP girls do. That's neither right nor wrong per se, but it means the EN girls have to rise up to match the energy and output of their JP senpai - it's big shoes to fill in especially when they would rather stream different content.

The differences that you see between EN and JP boil down a fundamental cultural difference between eastern and western nations. Eastern cultures tend to be more collectivist while western nations trend towards individualist. This couldn't be more true with Japanese and Americans (Canadians included).

On the JP side, even the girls that don't play Minecraft regularly because it doesn't appeal to them still go through the motions of the games fully committed to completing the tasks they set themselves to do because they are consciously (or subconsciously) aware of how their actions reflect on both them and the group as a whole. This cultural collectivism is drilled into them from a young age, so it only comes natural to them to behave in a manner that benefits the group.

On the EN side the opposite is the case; you have a bunch of people raised in a cultural environment where nominal participation (or outright refusal to) is commonplace. You're allowed to "give up" on doing things just because you don't feel like it even if that brings negative consequences to you down the road. You are raised on the idea that the individual gain is more valuable than the collective benefit, and because they have already been rewarded for their "work", you get people like Gura and Mori who don't feel the need to commit to finishing a task ever for personal feelings or who will outright neglect the aspects of their job that she finds inconvenient to her personal growth, all without regard to how this looks in the eyes of the audience that is more likely to support them anyways because they are more often than not their cultural peers.

This ultimately leads to the EN girls basically slacking and/or burning out much faster than the JPs, who are likely also burned out but will continue grinding away anyways because doing otherwise "is not a good thing". They came in expecting to get paid to do whatever they wanted and have fund, but ended up facing the reality that they're just doing another job in a corporate environment and that means that they have more responsibilities than what they thought was relevant to the positions that they were applying to in the first place.

Whether one side is better than the other is not for me to say; this cultural philosophy we're talking about. I just wanted to point out what I think is the underlying issue behind the way they approached this whole Hololive thing and the results you see today.

Honestly, calling it hololive discount is pretty right. Niji has shown their superiority on the homeland, going for originality, having mixed gender, people like Roha in NijiKR etc. As a result every single viewer of NijiEN girls know HoloEN, but very few HoloEN viewers heard about NijiEN.
