Most hamster owners are retarded. They don't do the bare minimum amount of research before buying them because "it's just a cute small animal bro how hard could it be to take care of".
Most hamster species can't be housed together. They're solitary animals so they fight each other to death and cannibalize each other. There's tons of viral videos that're sold as "cute" like that one hamster hitting another hamster in a yogurt cup when it's really them displaying territorial aggression.
And they don't research cages either. They just get them a small shitty one and it stresses them out. I think Rosemi bought a shit cage for her hamster she replaced too.
Rats are the superior pets in every way. You can actually house them together and the get attached to their owners instead of just tolerating them. But people are squicked out by their tails so the antisocial assholes that are hamsters will always be more popular.

I was tempted to get a Rat for a pet, it seems "easier" to take care of than a dog since I don't need to take it outside every 4 hours. And the short life span is a boon because I can replace it fairly quickly without feeling like a bitch.

But everyone recommends getting 2 rats so they can play together and I'm just not a fan of it. I feel like it'd cause the rats to divide their affection between me and the other rat, and I don't like sharing my love like that. It should be focused on me and only me. What if one day I want to play with it but its too busy playing with the other rat? I would feel like shit is what it would be.
