For people who got into vtubers via HoloEN the biggest English speaking one before them was Nijisanji's Hana Macchia. She got thousands of live viewers, usually 3-5k which was impressive at the time. One big part of her streams was she'd have her dad pop in and talk to chat well before anyone like Pekora or co had interactions with them, he was a big part of the streams for a few months.
That dynamic completely fell apart however when they were having a normal zatsudan and the topic of video game messages came up, splurging Hana's dad to insult anyone who calimed video games weren't political, proudly claiming to be socialist and a bernie bro and advising any American viewers of his daughter's stream to apply to the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America).

Hana's rapid incline was because she and Pikamee were basically the only prominent vtubers who spoke English right as the initial vtuber boom and COVID lockdowns hit all at once. If someone saw some translated Hololive clips of Miko saying "nigga" then asked what vtubers they can watch who actually speak english, Pikamee and Hana were basically the only ones who would be suggested.

As the market of English speakers vtubers grew on both youtube and twitch, both her popularity started to slow down a bit because she started playing boring games, collabed with literal whos in Niji that nobody cared about (some of them male), and stopped getting clipped as frequently. HoloEN was the nail in the coffin, obviously, as well as Pikamee getting a huge surge in popularity leading up to HoloEN's debut, as interest in English speaking vtubers was an at all time high and she was shilled by a number of youtubers who made lists of "underrated" vtubers to check out (aka any and all non-corporate vtubers).

Her big "mistakes" were her game choice and lack of stream variety. She went from streaming a nice variety of indie games, JRPGs, and FPS games to streaming Fall Guys and one of three boring online games 2-3 times a week. And she only got worse about this over the course of 2021 which is why her view count is such a shadow of its former self. Who the fuck is going to tune into APEX stream #187 or another collab with a literal who Niji? The last ACTUAL video game she streamed was Yakuza 0 which was three fucking months ago.

I started watching vtubers around last March. As one of the people who just stopped watching Hana, I've listed the reasons why in this post. Why would I keep watching her play Fall Guys and PSO2 when the EN branch now existed and I found a bunch of really cool indies? It has nothing to do with her or her dad's politics. The vast majority of people don't follow her on twitter, and the vod that this clip is from has like 15 total dislikes, so clearly nobody who actually watched that stream gave a shit.
