Honestly, I think collabs only hinder one's progress in that regard. Carried my friend through most of the MC progression, and he didn't enjoy it that much. Got carried by him through Terraria and once again, I didn't really "feel" the game.
I think nothing beats good old sitting down and reading the wiki on your own time then trying things out at your own pace. But it takes time, and our boy simply has better things to do than virtual legos. Like, her actual passions such as music making.
