I guess in Chloecuck's fic it's already sort of beyond the event horizon in regards to going in the (relatively) more lighthearted direction. There's like, three major levels of subversion I suppose. The base execution of NTS just has the girl accept the play without question, either due to shitty writing or because she's a natural whore (gyarus fit this well), and it begins and ends with all parties happy.
The next level is what Chloecuck delivered us, where there's some measure of natural resistance on the part of the girl to fucking other men, and the guy's pathetic/assholish insistence on the continuation of the play becomes a source of dramatic tension. It usually either ultimately destroys the relationship or demands a development in which they reconcile by stopping or at least better defining their comfortable limits on fetish activities.
What I'm talking about even after all that (and personally this gets me pretty good), is when you have a girl initially reluctant towards the play, but then finding herself enjoying the power dynamic with the cuck and how much harder she can get him off relative to before. In this way, the status of their relationship itself becomes a tool to play with in bed and get them both off harder without any fear of it legitimately crumbling, and they loop back to something mutual and wholesome albeit appearing incredibly warped from the outside. The lynchpin is making it clear that the girl on a fundamental level enjoys the cuck's reactions to getting teased more than she enjoys getting physically stimulated by Chad Thundercock, and it's something that's only started cropping up rarely in recent years.
