I mean if you just completely throw out the stumble through part, and assume that I'm saying you'll be completely fluent and never need to do any studying ever again, yeah boy it really does sound ridiculous. but if you've been around and know people, you know that even 100 new words a day isn't the limit, there's no "limit" where it's just not possible to remember a word after so many, I've had periods where I only learned 30 words a day, and periods where I've learned 100+ words a day, what limits the amount of words you can do a day is your time, how much of a retention you can bear, and how familiar you are with the language. If you're brand new, anything more than 10 seems like a nightmare, but if you've been learning daily for a year 10 words is gonna take you like 3 minutes and you you can send them 3 days forward instead of 1 and still remember all of them 95% of the time because you've gotten good at the meta skill of learning japanese
