So XP drops are a thing that happens when you kill an enemy, amongst other things. If AO removed enemies without 'killing' them, taking the XP with it, then that indeed could have a crippling effect on leveling. Of course, it would not make sense to specify that takos should drop XP if the conversion already gave XP. That is simple enough.
But what does 'but they shouldn't count as kills' even mean in this context, then? To talk about whether takos drop XP or count as kills or not implies not considering the conversion part of the AO skill as something that is doing those things in the first place. Since it also wouldn't make sense to count conversion as a kill if tako contact counted as a kill too.
Is it possible that they were thinking conversion should be changed to count as a kill, but not dropping XP, and tako contact as dropping XP, but not counting as a kill? In principle that is possible, but if they/you did think that, it was left unstated, and absent explicit specification, or telepathic mindreading, it would be a very unusual assumption for someone reading to make, besides, given that nothing in the game so far (including the skill itself) has behaved like that.

The basic point that occasioned a comment was not really the matter of XP, but that it ultimately sounded like an argument for gimping ina's kit by making it so AO does not proc kill effects, such as Nurse's Horns.
The way AO has worked heretofore is that kill effects would be proced by the tako despawning on contact, not the conversion, so if one says they think the tako shouldn't count as a kill, then that sounds, unless explicitly stated otherwise, like an argument for removing on-kill effects from AO. That is the short of it. If this was not your argument, or if it was your argument but felt convinced otherwise, we can consider that settled.

part is an arguable point, since they don't do damage, and thus you could argue they shouldn't proc on-hit effects like enemies do with things like sake, plushie, or PPP. Though there might be precedent for those kinds of interactions with dakimakura, too.

The problem is that you HAVE to shorten it to simple things like those, because otherwise you'd have to write a literal letter explaining all the things that are so great about her. It's hard to convey feelings through text. Using emojis or that kind of stuff can come across as childish and something you wrote with complete honesty can be taken as a joke or viceversa.
