Speaking from personal experience, although I only got into vtubers full-time with HoloEN (I had been watching someone from NijiJP and Pika semi-regularly before), having switched to NijiEN almost completly, I can say that my view of Nijisanji changed completely in this time. Negative rumors aside, I didn't have any idea of what the company was like or what it was about, although for obvious reasons I reserved some judgment. Now, although I haven't been watching NijiJP any more than I already had, my image of Nijisanji and Hololive has been basically turned around.

I think it all comes down to the fact people got to Hololive through a pre-established Western fanbase. Besides that, like others have said, Nijisanji is also quite large, so it's much harder for people to get acquainted with all of it, and it's way of dealing with their talents offers more freedom, but that also means there is less reason for the livers to present themselves as part of a group. Hololive in comparison is very easy to digest: they established a working system since Gen 3, and you can see how that benefitted the rest. It's much easier to think of Holos in their pre-established relationships.

However, I think that's kind of a double edged sword. I was thinking today, that in the end the reason I ended up falling off with Hololive wasn't really any of the talents in particular but how things were handled from the top down. Everything feels so much slower in comparison, and it feels like the talent needs to comform to the company rather than have a cooperative relationship. Just compare how long it took Mori and Kiara to collab with Vshojo vs how long it took Pomu and Finana. I don't even think Cover *is* barring Pomu from collabing with Kiara, they might really be that damn slow when it comes to it. I 100% believe that Coco graduated first and foremost because of her problems with management.

On the viewers' side it's also created a subsection of fans who believe Hololive's talents are that much better curated than the entire rest of the industry; not everyone might go to the extreme with that thought, but many likely believe it to some degree, and I don't want to be involved with that at all. It's all so terribly stiff and the culture surrounding it has become more about events and clout than the streaming medium. This might attract a lot more people, but I don't think it's sustenable. I, at least, didn't get into vtubers because I liked idols or hype; I always liked streamers and the kind of dedicated, personal content they offer. To me it has always been about watching people regularly and being exposed to the things they like; a form of communication, if you would. That's ultimately why I came back to Nijisanji.
