I'm willing to pin most of the blame on Holobronies. Some of the shit those people do is fucking ridiculous, I don't think I've ever seen so much drama come from a single community. It's early 2000s gossip journalism on steroids.
Everything is a scandal (see: Kiara's Twitter), everyone is in conflict (see: numberfags), and the most cartoonish narratives always become the most widely accepted ones (see: Nyanners' evil master plan to destroy all lolis). They're the most obsessed gachikois (see: goslings) and the most nuclear antis (see: zhangs, janitors). And the weird thing is, it's just Hololive. Nijis, VOMS, Vshojo, indies, and other small organizations - everyone tries to keep things peaceful, and the only drama comes from girls themselves (see: Nijis, Monoe).
I know they're the biggest community by far, so they obviously have more schizos. But as someone who's seen everything from Sonic fans to bronies at their worst, I don't think I've seen an online fandom more rabid than the Hololive fandom. Despite what they've been saying some time ago, they really did go full idolfag. And you never go full idolfag.
