how many people is considered too many for a member's stream to stay comfy?

Youtube's phone app is bugged and shows hidden view counts on all videos of all channels. Not just hololive and not just member videos. You don't have to be membered or even subscribed to see the view counts.
If you have a video in a playlist, any playlist and have a video open, looking in your now playing list will show all view counts of videos in that playlist, even ones that should be hidden.
I have screenshot a few channels that had easy playlists to look into Member numbers. View Counts are of course not the same as member numbers, but far more reliable than Likes.
It's interesting. Look up what girls you're membered to by putting all videos into a playlist.
