The reason 4chan adopted captchas, basically. People would post images with "Save this shit as .js and run it" and of course enough dumb fuckers did it to keep a botnet running perpetually shitposting over the entire site for a while.

Also supposedly they did try disabling captchas years later and it just came right back instantly
