What I'm thinking of is that while "Valt" is used for the plutocrats, the concept it actually refers to is a lot wider. "Lord" should also be understood as only a rough English translation, I doubt English has a word that would accurately describe the meaning of "Valt" in a single word.

"Valt" is not limited only to a plutocrat. It means any person who fills a certain criteria. This means that to a citizen of the Serene Republic, inhabitants of other nations may be "Valt" even though those people themselves may not share the concept.
While "Valt" can be used just as a word for a plutocrat, as a title it hold more value. With that title comes a certain level of respect from the citizenry of the Serene Republic. I
To be considered a "Valt" you have to meet three criteria. These are, in the order of importance...

>1. Independence
You have to be the ruler of your own life, not take orders or be overly dependent on someone above you. This is the most important quality, and the one that is closest to absolute. A Valt is not supposed to be ordered around by those around them.
>2. Power
You have to have the ability to influence the world around you. Whether it is money or loyal soldiers and workers, it does not matter.
>3. Rule
You have to have people under you who follow your orders. Be they obligated to do so through honor or contract, it does not matter.

Independence is by far the most important quality. A person who lacks power or those below them to rule over Like Lady Edelweiss from some of my stories. She is on the poorer side actually when it comes to nasfaqg. may still be considered a "Valt" if they are independent enough. On the other hand, a very powerful man who rules over thousands would not be considered a "Valt" if they have a lord or a king or whatever above them giving them orders. Although these ideas are quite vague, as there is no clear level of "independence" or "power" or "ruling" where one would be considered a "Valt" or not.
You would still not be a Valt if you do not have some power or people to rule over.

From how behind I am on lore, I think these characters would work as examples. CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG ON THESE. IM VERY SORRY IM SO BEHIND ON LORE, IM BAD AT CATCHING UP DAMNIT
A citizen of the Serene Republic would consider the [Character] a Valt and would give them the appropriate respect

>A Risuner Elder / whoever is leading a tribe
>The top leader of any nation
>The Shoguns of 2434 ( I understand the emperor is a more ceremonial position, like it was in the shogun era japan)
>The Twap
>Prince of Tsushima
>Leader of any Moriji prefecture
>A distinguished /mans/ Adventurer (Sort of)

Meanwhile, a high ranking general or a follower of Pomerlane would not be considered a Valt. The CEO of K.A.G or C.I.O would not be considered a Valt (as according to my understanding they take orders from the Shoguns?)

As for real life, no holo would be a Valt, but some indies would be considered to be Valt

Where a Valt is not appropriate to use, I think the citizenry of the Serene Republic would use the foreigner's own word for their title, or they would default to using Holodhennet equivalents. I do not think there would be a word for "King" or "Emperor" in Kat Nol, as those ideas are not relevant for the Serene Republic or the Ka-ti Mak people.

Sorry for possibly horribly formated post, this is mostly my drunk flow of thought and I wanted to share these ideas and possibly get some feedback idk
