As someone who's bipolar, I can relate. It genuinely does fucking suck. There's not really much you can do to make it stop either, since it's all because of a chemical imbalance. You can only really learn to better cope and maybe take a bit of the edge off. There's also a high rate of self-medication, which would explain why she used to drink so much.
