I realized a while ago that, as an N4, my linguistic impairment is part of the basis for my enjoyment. There are enough slang, and enough cultural references that I need to look up, that the novelty of parsing them and learning new things distracts me from how much I should care about the content. If I lived in a fully Japanese context, and I were still just as cynical and contrarian, I would experience my chuuubas as less special the way >>22329600 suggests. I would see a lot of it as whatever the Japanese equivalent of "spewing zoomer memes" is.
But I don't see it that way, which is great, so that I can continue to enjoy my JP chuubas, both indie and corpo.
