It was not just the misconception by the audience, but the inability of NIjisanji to change their strategy "on the fly".
There is no convincing anyone that "Salome Hyaku-man-ten-bara" was not an elaborate shitpost by Nijisanji management that was supposed to last a week at most and be shelved.
