It's her hair style IMO, long twintails with kiddy colors and doodads look kinda weird on a giant big-breasted lady. The silly twintail hair would be fine if she was a loli but she isn't. Her new year's hair is improved but still not really a best-fit for her design, which I think would just be letting it down naturally.

Even if you did that however, her eyes/face proportions still look kind of odd for that body type but I dunno if that can really be addressed without a serious redo attempt like Lack for Flare. Where again, Lack is very good normally but for some reason Flare had a gecko face thing going. I think what it is, is artists may be better at drawing people from side angles or profile than facing you dead-on and your results may vary when you have them do that for how it looks as a still vs in motion.

the solution is to hire a different illustator and a different animator, same design same skin colour, untienher hair

I don't think it's necessarily just the skin color but the design is kind of funky looking, looks like a 90s fighting game character or something with the hair style and giant dango hair pieces. She looks bald when she turns her head to the side. Literally if she just had a different hairstyle and a retuned face the design has great potential, but it's too niche as it stands currently.

Factor that with Aussie time and a really really thick accent and it's not super surprising ultimately.

She didn't actually say that, I'm just paraphrasing what basically is inevitably concluded by many here. I mean, she was always last in the subs before debuting, and was far in last before taking her month break (which didn't help one bit). Just like how Flare tails everyone else in Gen 3 and it was actually by a huge huge margin just like Sana for a while, until they redid her model (she literally will not go back to her original gecko-faced one, she said so herself) and have been slowly whitewashing her. It'd possibly be considered offensive to whitewash Sana but I dunno, they could. I think it's really Sana's hair that messes things up, the outline of her head looks bald from the side and it's weird. She just needs to let her fucking hair down and people will gosling like crazy.
