Some do have long-term plans. Most of them aren't great and are based on loose predictions of a fairly new medium, but it's better than others who just threw money at artists because they have disposable income and think they can be just like Yagoo. That's surprisingly common and it's a great idea to ask about a long-term plan in interviews.
Niji seems to be the only one taking the spray-and-pray approach to debuts, but it makes business sense. They really only need a couple breakout talents to recoup their total investment, and with the power of their brand, that's a guarantee. Sucks to be one of the ones that doesn't get huge (picrel), but hey, at least you get autonomy since they don't give a fuck what you do in 2view hell.
