you would've been 100% correct - until Zen2 dropped. that was when the IPC/single core performance gap on my hag of a CPU actually began to show.
and it's not gaming performance, but if you try to e.g. encode 4K HEVC using x265 - you will see how well and truly long in the tooth these old gals are. one 4K encode will saturate my 12C/24T IB-E setup. you could probably run two simultaneously, twice as fast - so 4 times as fast - on a Zen3 12C/24T CPU
