I just woke up and during my daily backreading, I stumbled upon this. The rest of the answers are fueled by the turmoils present since the dawn of this board and even in the former /jp/ days, that is to be expected. But if for a minute we can throw that clannish sentiments away for a second I think we could hold a more meaningful discussion on the matter. The anons answering vaguely or saying they wouldn't drop their oshi if something like that happened need to take into consideration a vital factor, you are watching vtubers. We are indeed starting to see contamination between the so-called E-celebs and vtubers, thanks to the breakthrough of vtubers into the Anglo-sphere and yes thanks to performers like Pippa, but another veracious fact is that vtuber are still broadly different from E-celebs. The careful attitude of many answers under this post applies to e-celebs, not to vtubers, they are both internet performers, comedians, but if you are on this board I trust you know the difference between the two. Hence why balanced and well-nuanced answers like those don't apply to vtubers. It may sound like a coercive attitude on my part, but I believe answers like that require a solemn and firm answer, you can't work with words much, it's a yes or no, and in the case of a No I believe your understanding of this media to be quite lacking. Shallow answers like, I watch her because she is fun, can work for others' form of entertainment but it's infuriating to hear such an asinine take on vtubing especially on a board like this full of enthusiasts and zealots. The overlap between performer and the shadow they cast for the spectator, I already talked about this but that's what makes a vtuber special, that play of the parts and that distinction but at the same time the fact they are so well harmonized, sometimes you can see an elusive and exciting slip of mask by the actor, other times you just see the shadow tricks and maneuvers around the stage, but both of those, this adroit and unique performance and all the facets it has are what makes vtubing special. But to have those you need to keep a balance between the shadow and the actor. I alluded to Pippa when talking about the contamination between vtubers and e-celebs, Pippa content recently had a turn she decided to take a more normie and asmon approach maybe out of fear of losing the opportunity and the momentum she grasped out of lady's Fortuna hands. Pippa's content has changed, that's inevitable the actor is growing and the shadow is morphing with it, but the reason why the audience is still enraptured by that ever-morphing shadow is that despite the constant change its intrinsic qualities are the same, "Everything must change for everything to remain the same", that's a quote from the Leopard an italian novel, the quote is about Italian politics but it applies to the controversial and eccentric character that is Pipkin Pippa. The constant engagement that we can see /here/every day from Pippa's audience is enough proof, I never saw another community that has this level of affection and attachment for an internet persona, it's a peculiar bond only found in vtubing. Parasociality it's not a derangement of this hobby, it's a prerequisite.
