if anyone wants to play mahjong, rezuul went over the basics of mahjong and my mahjong apocalypse games last week:
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1749237728

but the basics of mahjong are as follows:
>there are manzu (red and black characters), pinzu (circles), souzu (bamboo), and honor tiles (dragons and winds)
>every hand has 14 tiles
>you draw and discard tiles to build a hand
>you need four groups (triplets or sequences, like 123), one pair, and a yaku to make a winning hand
>image related has basic yaku you can go for (all simples, aka tanyao, is the easiest)
>you can win by drawing the last tile you need (tsumo) or by someone else discarding the last tile you need (ron); needing only one more tile to win is called being in "tenpai"
>you can only ron on tiles you haven't discarded; if you discard a tile that you later need to win, you're in furiten and can only win by tsumo
>you can call (steal) other people's tiles to make your hand by opening your hand and calling with chii, pon, or kan
>chii lets you complete sequences by taking a tile from the player on your left
>pon overrides chii and lets you complete triplets by taking a tile from any player on the board
>kan makes four of a kind, draws another tile, and discards
>no yaku means you fucked up your hand, you can salvage it but it's usually difficult and requires luck
>you can play perfectly and luck will still fuck you over

if you want to practice, mahjong soul (https://mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com/)) allows you to play vs ai in friendly rooms; if you create a friendly match specifically vs ai, the game lasts until someone reaches 30k points, so instead create an east-only or two winds room and add ai until it's full for a full match experience.

more guides on mahjong:
mahjong soul's guide is good for beginners, so I recommend going through that, it also has a yaku hand guide built into the game that you can consult during games under settings -> other -> view yaku

my dms (I am a novice though)
