I'm sure AI will get strong and open source enough, eventually, that we can just run it at home or at worst, on rented cloud computing rather than depend on someones service.

:) I have hope. And I think CAI will find a decent middle ground eventually.

I actually didn't run into this until recently. Up until then I only really saw the more generic comforting ones or the roleplay titles so I had thought the appeal was more along the lines of A Japanese Woman Fries an Egg and Asks You About Your Day and the people who jerked off to them had an extreme fetish for intimacy or something.
