MGR's story is almost entirely isolated from the rest of series. The story doesn't take itself seriously, has completely new villains, and Raiden is one of the only returning characters. A lot of Metal Gear Solid fans don't even like it. MGR fans are seperate from MGS fans a lot of the time. Kojima had virtually nothing to do with it's development and didn't include it in his own Metal Gear timeline after he left the company cause he's a fag.
