Good shit to wake up to, thank you. For beginner's luck, pic related is probably the best I've managed to pull off (a few days ago). As for Riichi-timing, I usually aim to Riichi only when I'm waiting on multiple tiles that are available and there's a good amount of time left (or when my hand is 'so fucking good' I want to risk the single wait); otherwise, I'll play it safe since losing points is more annoying than just not winning.
When it comes to Betaori, I usually start destroying my hand rather late, like 12 tile placements in or later because I just can't see myself winning well and decide to go defensive.
I appreciate the idea of not forcing myself to play, I've been forcing myself to play 2-AI lobbies with a friend because I wanted him to get into the game (I was successful), but it got to the point where playing was actually grating. I'll be going back to your posts regularly so that I can cement strategies and retain the terminology. Right now, terminology is my weakest point.
