I don't know if either of you ever actually saw Meru at her worst but she absolutely did end up getting her act together big time, and despite not having it in her to actually do the graduation stream in the end she still left on a positive note and made it very obvious that she's just reincarnating. The slight stumbles and relapses don't change the fact that she went from a seeming lost cause to a success story pretty much entirely of her own volition.

Kana's menhera manifested with a lot of lashing out at other people and I think she lost a lot of sympathy early on because of that, and even now there are people who still hold it against her and won't give her another chance even though she's really trying to be a better person. Meru on the other hand was a lot more openly self-hating and never took it out on anybody else (at least as far as I can remember) so people had a much easier time rooting for her.
Either way I'm glad they're both doing way better now, I'm proud of them both and I hope their success stories serve as a reminder to others to never give up on themselves.

meru's issue was that she continually blamed herself for every single bad thing that ever happened. she's finally figured out how to look forward, so it makes sense for her to move on from "meru" and i'm sure she'll pop up again somewhere soon enough. it's bittersweet, but a graduation is usually nothing but retrospection, which frankly meru's done more than enough of.
she's going to be fine. trust. she's done an amazing job and i feel nothing but overwhelming pride in her.
