>What about 3D models? I'd imagine they're a lot cheaper because the modeler doesn't create by drawing animation frames.
I know you don't mean anything mean by it but whenever people say this shit it pisses me off so much. 3D modelling is far more complicated than you take for granted, and every step from blockout > greybox > refinement > texturing > shading > rigging > animations > blendshapes takes so much knowledge and the smallest fuck up can set you back entire days in a professional enviroment. Setting blendshapes (basically small animations toggles for facial emotes and the like) up for live-face-tracking requires basic coding knowledge, and having all of it in a easy-to-use package that even a toddler could use is something most people take for granted. 2D is still massively complicated, but there's less "steps" and plenty of cheats like tweening that make for a majority of the animations for 2DLive models, where as you can't really "cheat" at 3D modelling unless it comes at the expense of the character design (Masked character = no need for in-depth blendshapes and model topology, Bald character = no need for weight-painting hair fuckery and the bullshit that comes with normals inversing). That's not even taking into account that a majority of the time you'll need a 2D reference for the artist to follow, so you're adding even more expenses onto the process if you want the model to actually appeal to people.

3D is expensive as hell if you want it to look good, but it's expensive for a reason. Vroid is cheap but looks like hot garbage. Only go 3D if you actually have a use for it (wanting to do animations with your model. 3D dance/ringfit streams etc.)
