It's just sticky rice (or Glutinous rice, same thing). You can find it in any chinese or thai grocery. Japanese use short grain sticky rice while thai use long grain sticky rice but it's the same thing after you have pounded it out. I used a potato masher but you can use anything that is blunt, the underside of a mug could work even. The japanese themselves traditionally just use a wooden hammer as in pic. Then you can eat it as is or grill/fry it (without oil) if you want some crispy brown surface. For condiment there are thousands of options. Bea seems to like onions sauce and red bean paste. But you can use jam.
